The first game was "The Legend of Kage" by Taito. You can verify out some screenshots of the game at the link I've given you. One of them has your fire-breathing monk in it.
The first person who answered you was right about the second game. It is Jungle Hunt. Or you might have played it as Jungle King. It was originally Jungle King, and your character was a Tarzan-like dude, but they changed your character to an explorer and renamed it Jungle Hunt after the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate threatened to sue them for copyright infringement. The game play was identical for both versions, though.
