Default Text Messaging Obstructs Writing Skills

Who owns a cellphone? or should I say who doesn't have it yet? Almost everyone owns cellphone now. Even the kids have it and teens are addicted to it. Ireland's Department Of Education and U.S. teachers expressed their concern about this alarming issue. They observed that students aged 15 and 16 are using phonetic spelling and little or no punctuations at all. This seems to be a very big threat in traditional conventions in writing.

This also leads to a larger problem particularly in answering test questions. Students tend to think rapidly with little thinking and few words and without analyzing it. English teachers should pay attention on this matter. If we can't come up with a certain solution to that, it will definitely decrease the number of potential writers.

Technology does interfere with traditional means on how we educate children. Most of the time it's helpful, but sometimes it causes indolence. In the case of text messaging, it greatly affects the grammar and spelling of students these days. It's hard to tell if the student doesn't really know how to write properly, or it's just his style of writing which he acquired from too much text messaging.

The emergence of the mobile phone and the rise of text messaging as a popular means of communication would appear to have impacted on standards of writing.

However, most industrialized countries do not use this service anymore. Simply because of the emergence of VoIP.

This issue doesn't concern just the kids at school, but educators as well. I personally know of a High School Science teacher who wrote this on the board while her students were taking an exam: "KIP UR EYES ON UR PAPER!". The culprit? Too much text messaging.

The principal happen to pass by her classroom and saw what she wrote. She wasn't reprimanded, but was advised to be cautious and protect the integrity of the institution.

The very foundations of education should be carried by the government institutions, the ways of technology could not be eventually stopped.

But the learning systems of several countries should direct themselves to focus on the children.

The parents has the initial obligation to relay this to their children, however the government should always side by side with the fathers and mothers, for us to avoid a brain drain.

Certainly it does because i have seen that happen with myself as in my technical papers i have used "u" instead of "you" at just so many places and many other examples like coz , t , m etc follow .
The rising popularity of text messaging on mobile phones poses a threat to writing standards among Irish schoolchildren, an education commission says.
The frequency of errors in grammar and punctuation has become a serious concern, the State Examination Commission said in a report after reviewing last year's exam performance by 15-year-olds.
Now its too young at 15 to be using a cell phone so extensively !
