Default iPod User?? You're in Danger!

The iPod may not be as innocent as it looks. At first glance, you can deceive by its attractive appearance and lists of special features. But a recent study by medical doctors and one inquisitive teenager shows the iPod may interfere with the activity of cardiac pacemakers. Pacemaker cells are the cells that create impulses and they directly control the heart rate. Apple iPods can cause cardiac pacemakers to malfunction by interfering with the electromagnetic equipment monitoring the heart. The study did not examine any portable music devices other than iPods. So the iPod joins a long list of electronic devices that may interfere with pacemakers.

But still, it is in the process of long testing and experimenting before we can conclude that iPods are really a threat to our health. I hope its not...

Chandu is right. Remember that anything excessive isn't good for the health. Use iPOD sparingly. Maximum level may result to hearing impairments.

So, it's safe to use an ipod as long as you're not anywhere near a pacemaker? Fair enough. But I don't think that electronic devices such as ipod or celfones can directly affect out health. I received an email before saying that the use of celfones can cause cancer, and similar emails discouraging the use of consumer goods because they are a threat to our health. Well, I guess it wouldn't hurt to be more cautious.

Sounds like a black propaganda. But better to be on the safe side.

Good thing I dont require pacemaker yet for my heart condition. I would let music heal my ailing heart. If this would not prove effective, then forget music and hello pacemaker.

When i first heard about this news some weeks ago...whattheheck....this research sounded scrupulously stupid..at least to me.

Majority users of pacemakers are usually on their late 40s up. General users of iPods are in early teens to late 20s. I mean, the demographics just don't match, and when you're a prolific researcher, you'd know that one of the first few things to consider in a research is to set your demographics.

if you think about it Ipod is really dangerous for us. Yes it interferes with the activity of cardiac pacemakers, yes it will make us deaf, but can you stop the sells? Can you as an individual do something against a huge industry?
I really agree with you but we will never be able to face this problem.
Maybe one day....

Well , all the electronic gadgets are termed as dangerous to health in some way or the other . Even the microwave that is in the kitchen termed as some kind of danger . the ipods and other mp3 players are more dangerous for their effects on heart .Listening to tunes on an iPod may be great for putting a skip in your step, but it can also play havoc with a heart pacemaker, a new study found. In addition, if an iPod stopped a pacemaker from working in a patient who was totally dependent on their pacemaker, it could cause the heart to stop.
