Default Yahoo! Auctions to be closed!

wtf....what's happening to Yahoo! anyway.

Early this week, talks about the shutting down of Yahoo! Photos to give way to Flickr (which is Yahoo!-owned). Along side this, Yahoo! has confirmed to close down Yahoo! Auctions US and Canada officially on June 16 of this year.

Yahoo! Auctions in some parts of Asia, will still have to continue operation however.

This is really bad news. I used to participate in Yahoo! Auctions, though it is no comparison with ebay, it has a good interface somehow.

Yahoo! Auctions is I guess one of the well interfaced auctions sites that I have visited and I can say that it's one of the most established. It's indeed a bad news that some of the services of Yahoo are coming to an end. It's quite intriguing as well...

Why shut it down? Is it losing money? Why not sell off the entire auction property to someone who can manage it better? Money down the drain..

If you happened to frequent Y! Auctions in the past recent months, there were a lot of bugs in the system, and it would take a while before they got resolved. This usually ticks the sellers and bidders alike.

It probably took more money goin out just to maintain the system than the ones getting in from advertisers. This is just rather my personal observation as I used to frequent the site.

Well this one was a surprising news as if it was making profit from it then what was the need to close ? or was it really not making enough out of it . One does know it might not be as well as the ebay , but closing it is different altogether . Yahoo! Auctions comes to a screeching halt on June 16,2007 in the US & UK. In just a span of a month, following the announcement of the planned termination of Yahoo! Photos, this news becomes part of a list of services Yahoo! is shutting down. Barring the two mentioned countries, the services will continue to operate in Asia.

As eBay has proven its dominance in the online auctioning market, Yahoo is streamlining its focus onto areas of their company that are going strong, while dropping those that are faltering.

Your statement regarding how Yahoo wanted to be like Ebay is farther from the truth. Yahoo Auction Inc could of cared less about the Sellers and Buyers and in trying to make it a booming Auction Site.

Since Yahoo Auction went free the place was a mess! There was not one day that went by that Yahoo Auction didn’t have some kind of techinical problem/issue. The Auctions customer service is/was a big fat F.
