Default A student got suspended for playing counterstrike...

Or something like that....

A parent reported his teenage son to his high school that the teenager was playing a computer game that involved a lot of killing and that the scenes greatly resembled the high school buildings and facilities.

The school authorities investigated the issue and found a site which made a map of their school available for download, however, the creator of the map was their student...and they ended up suspending the student.

What do you think? Are the kids becoming way violently wrong or the adults becoming too over-protective?

See other people's comments.

The kids are getting violently now. I think that is also one factor why there are massive killings in US particularly in different high schools/universities. They are not properly guided when it comes in playing those games...but...don't get me wrong I have nothing against counterstrike or any other battle games, because as a kid they should deserve to enjoy their childhood but must know their limits through parent's guidance.

well i guess, suspending the student is a little bit too much. A good reprimand would have done the trick, but to suspend the kid and miss out on classes...nahhh!

I agree Ryan. Suspension is not the only means, that's too harsh and traumatic for the kid. They could have given him a warning, which is an SOP in school for that matter.

It's very clear that the school authorities overreacted over this. "Unfortunately, those days are gone when we can just take things lightly and just say, 'Oh well, these kids were just joking.' "

Well sometimes its better to be over protective. This could deter unfortunate events from occuring and could benefit the concerns in the end. School authorities may have over reacted but the action is still valid.

If that's the case x-man, there weren't any better ways to handle the situation? Poor kids!

I still think that reprimanding will still do the trick. Suspending a kid for playing a game (which happened to resemble the school buildings) was a little over the top. The kid din't bring a real gun in school, for that matter.
