Quick to richness and glory
I think the most probable answer would be $$$$$$$$$. Most people would rather get rich in a quick stroke and believe that is possible. Some prefer to work hard and earn their money. Look at the lottery programs around the world and see how many people are hooked on them. Why don't they just invest in stocks and hope for the same quick returns and hope for luck with a little sound judgement.
Warren buffet had made his fortune speculating the stock market. Even so I would say it is the sheer excitement that follows and the anticipation of a sudden windfall is what propels people to gamble. Many of them lose all they have from gambling and and can never regain their former standing. Friends will leave you and not trust to lend you any money. So why they do it..... Hmmmm ?
