Then I guess it's a 'If you are willing to pay the actual price, then you can afford it and we don't have to give you a discount. If you really need one or feel that you deserve one, then you would ask for one' situation.
On the other hand, if you keep on asking for discounts, especially with friends around, wouldn't they consider you 'cheap'. Hmmm, if you're considering this question, then maybe you already are. But in actuality, it's making a wise decision of not paying more than you should.
Consider also that if a grandmom asks for a discount with a frail voice, it's harder to say no.
