As for discounts most merchants on or offline do not oftten publish their discounts. The best policy like you said is to ask before you write off anything. I make it a practice to ask if there are any discounts applicable for the month, day or even season. Students being under a budget will need discounts and senior citizens having served the country in being productive all their live should get a break too.
