Question is, would putting ads on your profile be profitable? Probably not, unless you have 5000 friends. Even then it's not a guarantee.
And more importantly, how will it reflect on you? Would it brand you as a shameless marketer who would milk every network/site possible? I think blogs are OK, because you're providing some value through your posts.
I think the answer is obvious.
