Default Meta tags on blogs increases search ranking? SEO questions

I've heard that we should optimize our websites/blogs for our top ranking keywords. If the keywords already bring your site in the first page, why optimize it by including them/bolding them more in the posts? or is it preferred that we include them in the meta tags? I also think that there are specific differences between blogs and websites. If anyone tried optimizing their blogger blogs with the top ranking keywords they discovered of it, please share your experience with us.

One tip i just recently read about the blogs is that , if you include a keyword say tools in all your blog posts then there is a sureshot way of getting traffic with the tool keyword plus many related combined keywords .So the bonus here would be the one keyword plus all the other keywords in all the posts , this probably more useful for the bloggers who are just starting off with blogging.

Blogger templates typically don't have all the meta tags - the Description and Keywords tags need to be added manually. My blog ranks #1 for "click fraud blog" even though I didn't add the word "blog" to the Description tag until today. It was optimised only for "click fraud" but without any conscious SEO effort. The mere occurrence of that term and some back links a few times did it.

trainsem, i take it:

http://noclickfraud.blogspot.com

is your blog then? Cool... I found it at number 1 on the 'click fraud blog' keyword.

This is no wonder because you have all the words in both the Title, and URL of your blog (blog from blogspot.com). Usually keywords in domain and url plays quite an imporant role.

But, surprisingly when you search for 'click fraud' alone, it doesn't show up.

This goes to show how hard it is to SEO for simple keywords. One word is of course hardest, 2 words quite hard, and the rest may be simpler.

Personally, I feel that actively trying to SEO for a particular word may be a waste of time. Building an ongoing community and high quality content for your niche or websites is key to success. It's the long-tailed keywords, and lots of different ones that brings you the most traffic.

For example, if you research on the word 'dating', it shows 5 million searches (but 99.9% of it is long tailed, ie, phrases that contains dating such as virginia girls dating lesbian').

even if your site comes up first for 'dating', you may only get like 50-100 clicks / day, versus sites with hundreds or thousands of pages of content that would get perhaps 1000-10,000 SE visitors daily.

Yes, that's one of my blogs. I am/was one half of visitlab.com which was a proof-of-concept experiment that was not commercialised. It is linked from that blog and does rank in the top 5 for "click fraud service", which was the targeted term, since "click fraud" on its own competes with articles about the subject and isn't a very focussed term.

Choosing a "money term" is important but must be balanced with what people type. Strictly speaking we had a "click fraud detection service", not one that committed fraud. But more people searched for "click fraud service".

So true. People may think they are getting good services from unscrupulous SEOs who gets them page one ranking for keywords that no one searches for.

I think optimizing kws using meta tags (desc and kw) is so overrated already. Before, it was really effective and had been widely used by SEOs and non-SEOs alike. Until, there's a time when meta tags were most likely abused. That's why search engines particularly google flag sites that have meta tags stuffed with merely keywords.

Right now, meta tags have no or few significance for better page ranking. Search Engines don't count on it anymore. I guess having a well-written meta description that has inciting call-to-action phrases will most likely be effective in inviting searchers to click since Google usually displays the text found on meta description as the site's description preceeded by the link with the site's title as the anchor text. Incorporating kws on the description somehow helps not because it helps to make your page ranking better, but because it helps to make your description a bit noticeable since it highlights (bolds) keywords found on the meta description (same as with the title).

Although, regarding the title, I think embedding kws on it still helps a bit on ranking well.
