Default What makes a good website

When you visit a website what is that makes you stay there or atleast bookmark that website for further visits .How a website has written its links is an excellent way to judge its quality. Good websites tend to have a rich and intuitive link structure. Good web writers think clearly about how each piece of content links up with the rest of the content on the website.

Share the best things that you like about a website ?

I view web sites everyday, what catches my attention is the over-all presentation of the website. If it's not well presented, it doesn't seem credible. Also, it has to be easy to browse, not too confusing. Then, I focus more on the content. If let's say I have no idea on the topic I'm searching and when I view the first part of the web site, I see technical jargon I don't understand, I might just go back to the search results and view another site that's more friendly. Internet junkies are used to browsing through sites but it's the amateurs that you want to keep coming back to your site.

Cool

-Clean not cluttered
-Proper, easy to read fonts
-Has a proper color scheme
-Looks like a lot of hardwork has been put into it (Attention to details, a number of appropriate functions).
-Fast to load

And best of all... regular, fresh, new, interesting content!

A website that's full of banners and images in it, will load very slow, that's for sure. So a good website would consider images and banners as well.

Once you have begun planning the goals of your website and how you will execute them through design decision, it is important to remember that the site's content is what people are really there to see, so don't forget to proofread, edit, and re-edit your work. Typos and other mistakes is one of the easiest ways to make your site look unprofessional and sloppy.
good design & readability go hand-in-hand.
While you choose a layout, colors, and fonts, the first question you ask yourself should be whether it is hard to read your site or if it would give someone a headache if they looked at it for too long. As a general rule, light backgrounds and dark text colors are easier to read, so if you aren't a color theory-buff, stick to that formula.

It's a pet peeve, but the thing that bothers me the most (ignoring garish colors, crazy fonts, horrible pictures and no formatting to speak of) is seeing "Untitled Document" as a website title.

Please! No matter how professional your site looks, seeing those words turns it from the classy online presence of a trustworthy merchant to a out-of-the-box solution bought by someone careless about details... and what makes you think he'll serve you with more attention?

Definitely the structure and the quality of the information. The the design. If the information is interesting (and well written) and the design is easy on the eyes yet attractive at the same time, the site instantly starts to grow on me.

Updates are essential as well. The more updates I see on a site the more I come back later on.

Sites that are both visually friendly because of the over-all presentation/designs and content-rich are the ones that attract me most. I want to go back to web sites whose contents are easy to understand, direct to the point and conscise. Also, it must be well updated for the visitors to be updated as well...

Well no one said content but it is also very important . Sometime I search a term on the google and some sites that are there have too less content to be sitting right up thee in the rankings and that irritates me too much . Content is the key to any website. With it comes the importance of categorizing the content in an ordered way. Visitors should be able to easily navigate between related category pages. A good content rich website is very welcome .
