There are numerous concerns as far as Affiliate Networks are concerned. One of the major concerns has to do with the networks themselves. When merchants hire networks with a revenue share model, they have an understanding their network is looking out for their best interests. In many instances this is not the case. With the rev share network model, both affiliates and networks are earning commissions based on referrals and/or conversions, therefore, is it really in the network's best interest to select affiliates on behalf of the merchants which has trusted them to do so? I think not... The responsibility of selection is being placed on the shoulders of the internal affiliate marketing manager who should be focusing their attention on providing affiliates with the most up to date banners, promotions, and offers to assist the affiliate in doing their job; which is to driving converting traffic and increasing online acquisitions.

They are pros and cons in employing the services of Affiliates Network. But in my personal experience, the PROS actually outweighs the CONS.
Its a WIN-WIN-WIN situation for both affiliates, merchants and networks. As the saying goes - 3 heads are better than 1. |

Affiliate managers have a lot on their shoulders, and this includes choosing affiliates to promote for merchants. As affiliate managers, they encounter hundreds of affiliates a day and they can basically tell if an affiliate has potential or not and most importantly, if it's a fraud. This is where the merchant places his trust on the affiliate network. They are all co-dependent as the performance of one party greatly contributes to the other.

How can you tell if going with Affiliate Network is better than In-House?
Simple: 99% of the largest affiliate programs and the fortune 500 dot net companies run their affiliate programs on networks. BTW: I don't understand what Manny said in the first place. Affiliate Networks do NOT in general do revenue share with the merchants. They charge transaction fees. So, the better the affiliates perform for their merchants, the more the networks earn. So, like bullseram said, it's a win-win-win situation. |

It should have been written as affiliates and merchants do revenue shares and NOT the networks.
