To be successful at using blogs for your online business:
1) You have to know a lot about what you're writing about.
2) Provide contents in which people will be interested to read.
3) Provide fresh content. Update your blog regularly.
4) Promote your blog. Put links to it in your forum and email sigs.
5)Read and comment on other people's blogs too. Ask them to drop by your own site and see what they can say about your own ideas.
6) Allow your viewers to subscribe to your RSS feeds.
7) Submit articles to directories like eZinearticles.com and goarticles.com. Since you're into writing already, this will be easy for you. You may also rehash your blog articles into more formal-sounding write-ups and submit these rewritten articles to directories. But keep in mind that search engines love it if you write unique and quality articles. And don't forget to include links to your main site/blog at the end of your articles.
8) Social bookmarking sites can help, although not significantly.
