Contaminated Milk, Powder, Candies, Chocolates with Melamine from China

Hell has break loose for dairy companies in China as 54,000+ babies have been reported affected by the contaminated milk tainted by Melamine. It's an industrial chemical used to make plastics & fertilizers. It was used by major dairy companies like Mengniu Dairy Co. and Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group and 20+ other suspected companies, in using it to mask diluted milk, and to increase protein level readings in their food products. It's high nitrogen content makes the food seemingly 'high in protein'.

But far be from it, Melamine can causes kidney failure, even death. Oh, and also REPRODUCTIVE DAMAGE.

Considering milk is used to produce other processed foods, it's been found in candies, milk powder, cheese and chocolates. Consider also, butter, bread, cookies, yogurt, ice-cream and so forth.

Also, the latest concern is about animals eating food contaminated with Melamine. Meat can be tainted with it.

Since the China Companies reduced their cost by diluting the milk, but seemingly look 'rich in protein', lots of companies would have bought the milk and used it to manufacture their processed foods because the price of the milk supplied would have been quite competitive.

There's gonna be hell to pay and once we get the list of contaminated foods and associated companies, many businesses will be affected. This is not gonna help the economy at all.

Indonesia has food bans on the following:-

• Nestle liquid milk
• Dove chocolates
• Jinwel , Dutch Lady & Yili milk, yoghurt ice cream & other varieties
• Oreo cookies
• Snickers bars
• M&M chocolate candies

Korea:-

• Misarang Custard
• Milkrusk

Some of the main products in the news:-

• White Rabbit candies
• Four Seas Cake (strawberry flavor)
• Mengniu milk
• Sanlu and Yili milk

Lipton Green Milk Tea removed by Unilever but recently tested negative for Melanine. It uses Chinese made Milk.

Many mothers are also getting their babies tested. Since melanine causes kidney failure, they check for kidney stones in the babies. In China, parents line up all the way outside the hospital entrance to get their babies tested. Maybe some mothers who have been feeding their babies with milk from China, should take note, in case their crying once too often. The doctors may do an ultrasound.

Taiwan just banned another 20+ products for melamine contamination. I'm wondering why most of these countries ban the products but do not put out clearly the list of products. You know, name of the products and the manufacturing companies. Like the governments are playing guessing games with people's health.

Philippines has come up with a list of products cleared from melamine. But has found traces of it in Jolly Cow Slender High Calcium Low Fat milk product, which has been withdrawn. So watch out for Jolly Cow Slender milk.

Chinese lawyers representing the families with babies affected by the tainted milk with melamine issue are being pressured to withdraw from the cases. At least 14 lawyers have been told by officials to just 'follow' whatever the government will arrange. Potentially million or even billion dollar lawsuits, but ofcourse will hurt the deep pockets of the corporations and their 'backers'.

This is really sad. I hope the conditions can improve. I'd really like to go visit China one day.
