I'm sure everybody saw this coming from a mile away. After years of promoting and supporting firefox, Google's gonna go their own way with their own web browser titled 'Chrome'.
So post all thing IE, Firefox and Chrome here in this sticky thread. They even went their way to get a webcomic on Google's Chrome up. It looks like it was drawn by Scott McCloud. Sandbox feature to isolate crashing webpages, sort of a semi web browser OS to run applications, plus 'detachable' tabs. One things for sure, alot of us are gonna want to try this out. But of course, Google's abit late in the game, Microsoft is abit slow in innovating and Firefox is growing like mad. But one things for sure, Google is about providing more value to users by pooling it's internet tools together and synchronizing it with Chrome. Plus with their goal of replacing software running on windows to software running on web browsers, they'll try providing something Firefox is unable to easily provide. Plus ofcourse, the moolah from Google is a clear advantage.

Have anyone tried the Chrome browser yet? Pages that are usually slow to load and scroll are now lightning fast! The way that it works is that it takes a little more memory than firefox/ie per tab but then again, if you're not planning to run 30+ tabs at a time, you'll see the remarkable difference in performance. Gone are the days where even though you close some tabs in firefox and still see that firefox is hogging the memory. To download and use it, just checkout google.com 's homepage and there'll be a link for you to download and try it out. It'll import your settings from firefox for you.

Thanks for the link, David. Just installed it and tested chrome a bit. It's like a strip down browser.. Not very user friendly actually. Would not recommend it at this first release.

It's actually pretty good. Very fast and the design is great.

Check out the Story behind Google's Chrome. This video is for those of us who are lazy to read. Javascript -- yada, yada, how fast it became. Which is true.
Also, check out 10 main featured of Google's Chrome web browser. Making it more intuitive, but still man, the main thing is that it's faster. Have I mentioned that it's faster?

The key to browser dominance and having the largest share of users is not in how good the browser is. Rather it's in distribution. And of course this falls nicely into Microsoft's lap, which is why Google is so eager to get Dell to distribute their PCs and Notebooks with Chrome.
Chrome is still Google's sneaky method to replace software run by windows with web application run on web browsers. Chrome is designed for that and will continue to be improved for that reason. Companies of course will not switch currently without sufficient web apps rolling out, tried and tested. With Google Gears, Google's web apps will also be able to be run offline. So apps like gmail, and Google Calendar, will then also be run offline on a pc like a software application (removed/hide address bar and other miscellaneous browser like features). Google's Android targets phone applications. So the major groundworks is being built up for futuristic cloud computing.

I'm wondering what that blue circular thingy in the Chrome logo means. An eye? Window to the internet? Why blue?
Regarding distribution, Google has a secondary advantage to Microsofts primary advantage (users who buys a pc/notebook, will be exposed to IE first). That secondary advantage is ofcourse Google's popular search engine and homepage. Placing that link to download Google's Chrome in it's homepage is the best form of advertising anywhere. Once the kinks are worked out and Chrome becomes more secure, Google should kick it up a notch.

Chrome's browser market share as of last week was 0.7%.
Firefox increased their market share from 19.5% to 19.8%. Apple's Safari had a greater increase of browser market share from 6.3% to 6.7%. Even Opera had a small 0.01% increase. Who's the loser, yes it's IE. Losing 1.4%. Although they still have a whopping 71% market share. Stay tuned for this week's results. Will IE keep losing it's share. Perhaps Chrome is providing laidback browsers with greater awareness of other alternative browsers. You know how some browsers use the first thing they see and stick with it for the rest of their lives. Chrome made them aware that there may be better alternatives. Plus Chrome is rather simple for now and the speed will get them excited.

Google mention that they'll anonymize user IP addresses in their logs after 9 months. Previously the duration was 18 months, so it's now cut by half. Still 8 months is a long time. But now it seems that they'll just erase the last 8 bits of the address, which means google can still get something out of it. Plus the cookie info is untouched. Your browsing sessions will continue to be tracked.
To remain more anonymous, some are resorting to disabling Google's cookies in our browser and block their ads?

Under all this excitement, Google's web browser Chrome has no Mac version. So Mac users can continue to wait.
Satellite company O3b Networks is working with Google to bring cheaper and high speed wireless internet access to areas that can't invest in a fiber infrastructure. If these internet access are under the control of Google, I wonder how they'll use it to their advantage. For one, I think that they'll even be able to better 'monitor' internet usage when they visit other non-google sites. Makes sense from them to tap into this rich source of data by providing attractive internet access. Research user behavior.

Learn the 10 main features of Google Chrome by checking out the youtube video. Good platform as a start. Wonder how introducing more functions and plugins will affect the speed. Is it me or it's now taking slightly longer to wait for a tap to close, after a while using Google Chrome?

Google is linking youtube with adwords, featuring 'Youtube sponsored video' ads alongside search listings in youtube. Let the bids begin.
Also, reading Google's gripe on foul coverage of outages in their apps, it got me wondering how it'll affect businesses when there's a 24 hours 'system down' on their email accounts.

I love my google toolbar..it's part of my online life. So I don't think I am going to use Chrome until they add-on the toolbar.

Google Chrome is going to have extensions soon. But how soon? And doesn't it take awhile for people to develop the add-ons/plugins/extensions? Anyway, it'll help to increase adopters. Firefox with it's open extensions is still growing the fastest and Microsoft continues to cheat their way in.
