What is affiliate marketing works and how to get started?

In a nutshell, affiliate marketing is a kind of marketing where merchants pay publishers for referrals of visitors to their site. Oftentimes, they do that through an affiliate marketing network such as AffiliateBOT. A merchant (i.e AsiaJam) is a site that sells stuff, such as books, clothes, fragrances etc.

In your case, you're the publisher. Your role is to promote and make your visitors go to a merchant site. You'll be paid based on a type of action your visitor performs. For instance, our 123inkjets program states that the commission is $12.60 per sale. That is for every visitor from your site who buys something from 123inkjets, you'll be paid $12.60!

However, not all merchants are looking for sales. Some will reward you for a lead, which normally requires that your visitors give their email information or particulars. These pay less, but also so much easier for your visitors to fulfill because it doesn't involve buying anything. For example, PayDayAdvanceCorp pays $17.50 per form submission!

You can get started in three easy steps:

1. Get a website. You'll need a site to put up banners to promote the programs. This can be a blog, a free hosted site, or a registered website. Do not create a site for the sake of throwing up a bunch of banners and expect anyone to click on them. Your site should contain some solid content like videos, articles etc. Banners are always secondary. You attract visitors because of content.

2. Sign up. Once you sign up with us, you can choose from a myriad of programmes you can promote, each with a different payout and requirement. Choose a few that are related to your site and put them up.

3. Get paid. When your start channeling visitors to merchants and they match the requirements, you'll see the money coming in. We pay via Paypal or check on the 15th of every month. However, we only pay when the amount accumulates to $50 and above.

Why affiliates joins an independent affiliate program or an affiliate program through affiliate networks?

Do affiliate marketing means quick bucks for affiliates? If business is an easy thing then every would have their own business and no one will do a 9-5 job.

Business is always a business which asks for some resources from his/her promoter. For an affiliate, joining an affiliate program should be long term, well planned and researched strategy. It should not be like that today you join a program and if it doesn't pay join another.

Creating a website or blog or forum is not enough. Think like a serious net entrepreneur. Create a well planned strategy for the business in which you want to enter.

Do well planned SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities & Threats) of the industry you choose. Analyze the merchant, communicate with the right person who will support to you.

Stay in touch with you affiliate manager, try to know more and more about the business, the strategies etc.

Then it is sure that you will be able to mint money from this industry.

not quite Tephus, well many affiliate gurus suggested to have a review page
for an affiliate program for example an ebook that sells at clickbank. any my qustion is it always necessary? i see some guys just direct linking to the merchant sites with their hop links for example. and some will be put a review page.. like when you search for keywords like water cars etc... so I really want
to know when do need a review page and when I don't..

Although the affiliate network will provide some guidance and assistance, the success of your website and affiliate marketing business depends mainly on your own efforts.

@Freebie - I think a review of your product is always good, but it doesn't count if you wrote it yourself. Give out some samples and have people review them. It gives your product some credibility.

Direct linking to merchant sites is BAD marketing. Also Google hates direct linking and your quality score will be low. (not good)

Take some time and use a review page. A good affiliate marketer NEVER cuts corners.

I have been doing affilaite marketing with different affiliate marketing progarm for sometime now, and have noted that the success of your network rely heavily on your attention to the details and content you post on your site. Relevant, informative, current and target audince generally helps draw massive links to your site and this translate to more dollars!!
There are also many factors thatmay lead traffic to your site like article marketing and SEO but they are employed when you have a well built site with content.

I have been in IM for a few years now and all I can say is

1) do some research on the aff programs you intend to promote. Find out what traffic levels, geographic information, demographic etc etc
2) keyword research on how people find your affiliate program.
3) use these keywords to bring traffic to your affiliate site.
4)keyword usage in the domain name you register.

Summary, do your research, know your target audience, gain traffic through selctive keyword research. Take longer in your setup and your find your campaigns will be more sucessful
