You've probably seen Google's Lively, which is a virtual chatroom service that allows you to interact with your friends via an animated avatar (like in The Sims). Though not as detailed and extensive as Second Life, it's a start. It's also not completely browser based. Sure it runs in a browser window, but you have to download a file beforehand (which probably contains all the graphics and sound files), so you can't just go to any computer and log on. In the worlds you can do simple actions like hug and kiss, but I think if they were to inject a game element to it, it will take off. And game element as in missions, not just gaining relationship points ala The Sims. Anyone tried it yet? |
