Great post adalia.

I think a loan modification is the safest way togo here. But what about those that are current on their mortgage payments? They get screwed because the banks won't even work with you if you have been making all your payments on time. Even if your home is very under valued with today's market conditions. A friend on mine owns a home which he bought in last 2005 before the bubble burst. Since then his roommate lost his job and eventually had to move out. He relied on the extra income that renting out his spare room provided and informed the bank the his financial situation has changed and he may have to foreclose if he can't rent out the room. Now this was a year ago. The bank just gave him the runaround because he desperately did whatever he had to do to pay his mortgage, even selling his car to make ends met. Last month he decided that he had enough and quit paying his mortgage so he can save his money and rent a newer, nicer, place. And guess what, the banks have been calling him non-stop. Maybe if these stupid lenders could have made the correct change to help undervalue properties, such as a loan modifications, we might not be it such a mess.

This is the true definition of a caught 22.
