Default Google buying Digg for $200 mil?

I think we'll see a lot of Digg like voting mechanisms on Google sites very soon. Not sure if that's a good thing.

TechCrunch reports:

"The companies are now in final negotiations according to our sources, although it could be a couple of weeks before it closes. And while the major deal points have been agreed on, the acquisition could still fall apart. Microsoft, which was previously interested in the company, may be willing to step back in at a much lower price."

Anyone digging this?

I think it's a good buy for google. Digg has a catchy name and has been installed on so many websites, the property would definitely let google monetize on it almost instantly after aquisition. With google's large advertiser base, it's a no brainer!

hmmm, the google brand is strong... in the internet. I wonder how it stacks up against Microsoft's brand strength in the internet. But if we were to measure Microsoft's brand outside the internet, it'll be stronger than google's. Which is ok, I guess, since google can't spread themselves to thin, and it's better to establish, grow and milk your cash cow. Focusing on core competencies.

Makes you wonder how many more years before google breaks out into the real world. 10? 20?

Anyway, what google application does digg work well with?
