AffiliateBot has a growing community like this and it would be more fun and profiteering if we affiliates can subscribe to a wide variety of products to endorse. I personally feel AB lacks it, but I'm sure as the sales will boost with the current programs we have, more and more merchants will be enticed to join AB as well.

Well yes more the merchants , more will be the choices and more people will be interested in the program . I think it will surely increase ass it is in the starting stages till now . One important advantage of having more merchants will be for people who have some already established websites and they are doing good too in terms of page rank , traffic , page views etc . If they find a merchant or an affiliate program that is related to their website , that will be good for them as they will surely do good as affiliates , it will be good for the merchant as sales is what he want
