Default Which Blogging Appliation to use?

Hi there,

Can you give me an example of which blogging
application do you use and why?

Name some pitfalls that I should be aware of.
How can they be avoided?

Thank you in advance,
Codrut Turcanu

Hi Codrut,

I think blogger is still the best blogging platform there is out there. It's free and completely customizable. Wordpress is popular, but you'll have to host the blog yourself if you want to serve ads.

Those two are the top players, and I haven't seen another service so far that can beat them.

Definitely Blogger... Anything google would be top notch.. and I have a sneaky suspicion that google may rank your articles just a weeny bit higher than other blog sites out there...

At the very least, your posts would be indexed faster!

Plus, it's far, far easier to use than installing your own wordpress, which, i think is great if you're a programmer

I use Tumblr. They're designed for short one liner posts, which is great if you don't have time to write so much or don't have much to say.

wordpress has lots of functions and plugins, but you always have to update it with new versions.

I would not recommend wordpress to the newbie. It's just too difficult to maintain. You'll have to rely on programmers to fix things for you or update things, etc...

But if you're a programmer or knows more about webmastering and dealing with servers, then sure, it'll be the better option... cause you have ultimate control and features you want to add to your blog.

If you are using free blogging platforms like Blogger, Tumblr or Wordpress.com, you have no control over when these platforms decide to close you down.

As for the Google indexing point laid out by SpaceBOT, I would say that this is not true. Self hosted Wordpress blogs can do on page SEO optimization better for the search engines with some great SEO plugins like the All In One SEO Plugin. The speed of indexing depends largely on the number of authoritative links that a site is getting rather than what CMS are you using.

Setting up a self-hosted Wordpress blog is not that hard, even for a complete newbie as most web hosts come with a installation program called Fantastico which you are only required to type in some details and click Next Next Finish.

I personally think that Blogger is the best place to start for newbie..After you get a grip on it, understand the whole idea, which is pretty much the same, then only you should consider other blogging tools.

For me nothing beats wordpress. It is because of the different plugins that you can install which other platforms doesnt support.
