Renaming Affiliate Marketing

I read in wikipedia that there is a move to rename Affiliate Marketing. It is claimed that the word affiliate marketing is often confused with network-marketing or multi-level marketing (which is definitely not synonymous). The most popular choice is "Performance Marketing"

A similar move was initiated years ago with the Search Engine Optimization Industry. But to no avail, today the industry is still referredt to as SEO. Is there a chance for the authorities in Affiliate industry to have a consensus on this issue?
