Most of us might set up websites/blogs to conduct affiliate marketing that are meant for the long term.

Some however create temporary sites/landing pages and purchase a relevant domain name of recent popular events. Maybe regarding some big news (like a school shooting, rape, kidnap (promoting security products)) and then SEO the pages, PPC Campaigns and with a good domain name that has good keywords in it, drive loads of traffic to the site and generate lots of referral sales for a time period when the news is still hot.

It's consistent work, but with a good system and applying proven methods, it's also consistent huge bundles of revenue.

There's always some hot news going around. Ofcourse, you'll need to compete with other affiliates who do this kinda stuff as well.

I think it's easier to create event centric sites, but the downside is that it's riskier. If it doesn't work, you lose money. But if it does, the rewards can be tremendous.

Right, there are risks involved. Which means, you'll need to do a few, monitor the results, cost and work involved and decide if it's worthwhile to continue / have the skill and the necessary attitude/discipline to make it worthwhile.
