Getting traffic and converting them to leads/sales

If you're an affiliate these two aspects of your site should always be a concern.

1) Am I getting targeted/quality traffic to my site?

2) Am I converting the traffic well?

Very basic stuff but will open up questions that will be highly relevant to how you will improve in your affiliate marketing efforts.

Consider the source of your traffic.

• Friends and family? (what if the product your promoting isn't right for them?)
• Bought traffic from a company? (same question, are they directing the right kind of traffic your way?)
• PPC
• Search engines

Always try to quantify your efforts. Ask questions like 'For each 1000 unique visitors to my site, how many clicks on the links/banners and how many converts into a valid lead/sale on Merchant's site. Do a seasonal comparison between different years as well like comparing past year january stats with this year january stats.

There's of course a simple law here in growing your commissions. Either add more quality/targeted traffic OR improve your methods of converting the traffic. Ultimately, these are the two elements that you control and responsible for.

it's obvious that the more traffic you get, the more transactions you get. but, a small amount of highly targeted traffic will outdo a wave of untargeted traffic.
