Default Links on forums

Most Webmasters forums allow signatures in the members' posting as it will attract traffic to their sites. These links tend to be misused by the new members by putting up their advertisement rather than providing useful information about their sites or personal profiles.
Most new Webmasters also tend to join the forums just to spam their website links all over the place. This is a very bad practice as other members will not only avoid the site listed but may also blacklist such sites. In this case, these spam links are worst than dead links.. they are classified as harmful links.
Forums are actually good places to build links if proper techniques were adopted, such as providing useful information and advices over time and members will start to visit your sites in your signature.

yes it is , but i am reading a lot of stuff these days about the forum signature marketing . Because it is touted to have double benefits , firstly that it is a good search engine optimisation technique through link building . it is always good torank up the ladder in search engine rankings . plus the other thing is ofcourse forum members , here is depends completely on you as what you post on forum can make or mar your reputation , you should try an establish yourself as a good member so that other members are curious to search out your links .

Most forms of spammy behaviour have been deprecated by the SE algos, therefore forum sigs have very little ranking benefit. They are definitely good for human traffic.

Absolutely! But participating in well targeted forums can really get really high quality (albeit non-search engine) traffic that converts (probably better than SE traffic).

And welcome Trainsem to the new and AffiliateBOT forum! Always good to have an SEO guru around!
