1 billion songs to download for free in Amazon - by Pepsi

Give away a billion mp3s to promote pepsi. To start during SuperBowl. It cost Pepsi 40 cents per song from Amazon. Though not every buyer will download a song, it will generate a huge buzz. Wonder if there's any new business ventures that can come out of this?

So there'll be plenty of ads that will say 'Buy a Pepsi, Free MP3 Songs, terms and conditions apply (which will be get 5 bottle caps to download 1 song).

I'm sure with the five bottles, Pepsi is still making a profit, albeit less than normal. Also, are the MP3s DRM-ed? Because Nokia announced that it's going to give out free songs for a year with purchase of new phones. BUT the catch is that they're DRMed and you have to get another phone after the free subscription ends a year later.

I'm pretty sure it's locked. And people won't start buying Pepsi for songs unless they're already drinking them, cause they could use the same amount of money to buy more songs on their own.

Then i guess it's a 'grabbing the market pie' strategy where they're getting people who drink competitor's beverages to switch over to pepsi. Also applicable to both pepsi and coke bisexual lovers. They'd then drink more pepsi. Also exisiting pepsi drinkers will drink MORE now that they're given incentives to do so. Good product to give away. Inexpensive and suits the big chunk of their target market. Young, full of strong teeth to erode teenagers.
