Default Dayligh Savings Time - How's it affecting you?

Don't be an hour too early [revenews.com]

How's the Daylight Savings Time changes affecting your schedule and sleep?
It can cause accidents on the road if it's affecting your sleep.

Also, going to work early can be a pleasant surprise as you find yourself having tons of personal time in the morning or... a dreaded curse of losing that extra hour of sleep.

Had fun with the clocks?

Default No problem at all

Daylight savings happens once a year and they reverse it once a year. It really helps and isn't a problem at all. You see you might lose an hour of sleep but what you gain in return is more daylight. The sun sets very late around 9.30-10.30 in summer but in the winter it set very early around 4.30 give or take a few. This is why they have this program so as to give you a more adjusted feeling to the ups and downs of the seasons daylight hours. Really convinient you see. Further more one hour isn't going to change your rythm by that much.

It's really interesting to see how daylight affects human beings. They do certain things in the day and certain things at night. Which makes them highly predictable and... easy to market to. What would happen to Huuumans if there was no daylight savings time? Is it mainly because the sunlight will affect your sleep or is it because it's more dangerous to get of work in the dark? Me thinks it's because it's expensive to run lights and resources longer to support the longer activity of waking humans in the dark.

Default Sports and outdoor activities

During these longer daylight hours everybody takes advantage of the sunshine and have a lot of picnics and outdoor activities. The only tricky thing is you never realise it is late because the sun shines bright for the most part of the day. The reverse is in effect in the winter months where it get dark real early and you just want to get back home and it does feel late early. It kind of affects your day to day life but the change is gradual enough that you don't really notice it. Imagine coming home from work and still have four hours of daylight to run your errands and personal stuff like shopping and what nots. I personally appreciate summer because you get the feeling of being alive and active longer.

Sunlight affects our schedule. Hmmm, if we think hard enough, we should be able to work out an angle for this. Sunlight, sunlight... maybe selling artificial daylight. How about an artificial summer park... naah to hard. Don't have such good control over trees. How about artificial blue sky, clear artificial river and green grass compound 24 hours a day to rent for 'daytime' picnics in the late of night? Crazy... maybe, since I'm not getting enough sleep for today.

i actually felt excited when i experienced daylight savings for the first time (not that it has some.. err.. 'feel'), because I've only been hearing about it while in Malaysia. minus one hour, plus one hour.. etc..

Also, when it's darker earlier, crime goes up? (more waking hours in the cover of darkness). Which is better when the time is adjusted? Also, increased darkness does affect a person's sense of security, especially in certain neighbourhoods.

Default Holodeck it

When we can eventually create an environment like the 'holodeck' in startrek and give out holodeck rations for everyone where you will be allotted time to spend anywhere and with anyone you want with your own presets in a virtual environment. Of course you will have the safeties on but in startrek sometimes the safeties are tampered with and you will have mayhem on your hands.

Since our future exposure to the environment will cause many diseases our culture will evolve an indoor mentality because it would be unsafe to be outside. No more sports, no more walks in the park but hey you will have holodecks. Not a bad replacement to continue living because going out could mean catching killer cold or getting enough radiation exposure to kill a small rat.

Indoor environments. Big screen tvs as big as the whole wall. Nothing too far off as a 'holodeck'. Possibly more as a virtual simulation room like the ones for pilots but for 'sightseeing' or playing games. Yeah, it'll be expensive but possibly cheaper components used, like 4 projectors onto 4 screens plus Wii. Sweet.
