Joost is a system for distributing TV content and other forms of video over the Internet. Joost is the pet project of Zennström and Friis who were co-owners of Skype. Friis and Zennström received part of a $2.6 billion cash payment when eBay bought over Skype in 2005. Joost began development in 2006. The development team comprised of about 150 software engineers from around the world. Most of the development and marketing costs were most probably taken care of by the windfall.
The project is currently undergoing beta-testing and has already drawn close to a million users. There are currently 1500 TV shows and 250 channels on the Joost Site and still growing. With all these developments and many more expected to unfold, one might ask: What is the implication on the advert arena? You can visit the Joost site for a feel of what it's all about |
