This is so cool.
Payittome (Pay It To Me) is a new site with a most interesting concept- Visitors send in their wishes, which consists of a picture of something they want, its price, and their contact information. THEN Advertisers can choose to buy that item for the user, in return for publicity on payittome.com. Of course, for the idea to really take off, the site has to generate enough traffic so as to give advertisers some value to the money they're going to spend. So far, most of the items on the wishlist are electronics. Macbook pros, iPhones, HDDs. So if you really want your item to be bought, choose something unusual. Like a Halo 3 Master Chief figurine thumbdrive or something. But if I was an advertiser, I would submit lots of wishes of my own product, since it's going to be listed for sure (and free). And it's not subjected to a 15-day limit if I 'bought' ads there. ![]() Current traffic stands at 4,000+ and climbing. Click here to read more. Last edited by Tephus; 09-27-2007 at 11:19 PM. |

This sounds interesting. "Wish Fulfillment" Hmm thats a new one. This is really the knowledge era. Anything is possible as long it can be imagined. Funny as it may be, this may be another money spinning model of this "surprise springing" knowledge era. Like most biz models of the digital revolution the advantage of first entry can never be underestimated.
Whatever the outcome, good or bad, this is another gamble that may well make some one smile to the bank. I think i'll visit the site and post my wishes. At least wishes can come true. Or what do you think? |

So the idea is to get people to post up their wishes with associated image.
If I'm a seller of that item, I may decide to give it to the wisher for free from which the link to my online store will be placed and featured in the frontpage. So, what does the guy starting the website get? Lot's of traffic from this unique concept? And then place relevant ads and text links plus sell advertising space to monetize traffic. Even if advertisers utilizes the 'loophole' of posting their own wishes and giving the products back to their 'alias', with sufficient loopholers, it'll still generate traffic and duping many people into believing that it's working and that will generate lots of word-of-mouth. Perhaps:- 1) Have a function to 'Tell my friends' 2) Provide tips for wishers like 'How to get advertisers hooked in giving you free stuff'. Tips like promise to blog excessively and positively about their product and store. 3) Standardize and organize the layout for each posting. Right now, it looks like it's everywhere and pretty messy.

I think no matter how you see it, the advertiser will be on the losing end. Even if you generate lots of traffic, it won't be organic. It would be more like incentivised traffic. Spam. I'm sure once this takes off, he'll start charging people to have their wishes listed.

Cool idea. But unfortunately we see many flaws in it. Actually the idea isn't new. Think of all the PayPerPost kind of sites. Isn't this like one of them? Only thing you don't write a review, but you probably will if they bought your requested wish. For many other sites, you get cash, not an object. But it comes to the same thing at the end of the day.

Well, gotta find ways to provide advertisers with more incentives.
But for now, I can see that people are having fun. They get creative and post images that are entertaining to see. Hmmm, rather than using this 'give me a gift' concept, perhaps it can be made merely into a famous 'Wish List' site. Rather than give someone a gift, mayhaps advertisers can be persuaded to provide a big discount on the selected items instead with the offer extended to other people up to a limit, say 10. It drives traffic to advertiser's site and people can be persuaded to purchase other items while they're there.

Well, I am both a marketer and a participant on PayItTo me, so I was happy to discover this discussion and this site.
First a little background... I, like many, discovered PayItToMe via Techcrunch, and decided to give it a try. I knew that most advertisers weren't gonna touch a wish that was too expensive in relation to an untested advertising model, so I decided to go small and unique--a 30 pack of Bud Light ($22.99 USD). Predictably, ads posted after mine were mostly composed of iPhones and other pricey gadgets. Within 24 hours, my wish had been granted by a small web business operator. Another guy's wish for Halo 3 (about $50) was also granted by the operator of another small business. After that, the next few weeks were uneventful on the wish granted side, save for someone's Heroe's DVD and a couple other relatively cheap wishes. But as the site gained publicity and its traffic has increased, so has the quantity, quality, and frequency of the wishes that have been granted. 2 iPhones and a Playstation 3 are among the some dozen items purchased by advertisers. The reason for this evolution can be explained in reply to the following comment... drasticfantastic: Think of all the PayPerPost kind of sites. Isn't this like one of them? No, not at all. The closest relative of this concept is probably the MillionDollarHomepage and its ilk. Because the participating advertisers on PayItToMe are either stuck in the dark ages of marketing and/or small businesses who can benefit from the tiniest amount of exposure, the primary value they see in this medium is simply getting their name and link on the front page. Word of mouth, whether organic or inorganic (such as PPP) is a concept these parties either do not fully realize, or cannot leverage efficiently. In fact, it is PayItToMe itself that benefits most from the buzz, and as result: the more publicity the site gets, the more traffic increases, and the more likely advertisers are going to jump in the water and grant someone's wish in a bid to merely expose themselves specifically to PayItToMes growing traffic--as has been occuring at a growing rate. How long will it last? As long as the buzz does--so better get while the gettin's good! Why not? It's free. And for you skeptics out there--no, it's not a scam. My Bud Light was quite real and quite refreshing. Now if I can just get somebody to pay for that private island I posted a wish for (with full naming rights for the advertiser)... Does "AffiliateBOT.com Island" suit your fancy, David?

Looking at the site, I think the publicity the advertisers are receiving are too little. There isn't even a logo of the advertiser's company/site/org, just a link, which isn't even prominent.

Hmmm, you're right. There is no logo. Unless it's the lighbulb thingy, but I don't think so.
Possibly, waiting to see if this concept is worthwhile to start investing in building a stronger brand? For now relying more on word of mouth? And also the tagline 'Wish fulfilment' explains the function/concept. Maybe we can help comeup with better taglines. Even something simple like 'Fulfilling your wishes' helps to add in the 'personal' element to the function. Overall, it's still a work in progress. Also, I won't know what to do with an island. But... an affiliatebot skyscraper, now that sounds more like it.
