I recently read an article regarding Does Blogging Hurt Families?. It got me wondering like although we know there's money to be made online, and the promise drives millions of people to the internet and spending hours everyday, could there be a growing concern that it becomes an additional burden, another activity that occupies time away from our own families.
Consider that we have work, we meet people outside, and usually when we come home, it's either tv or with the family. Now with the inclusion of the internet and especially the time demands of blogging, it kinda hacks away a substantial amount left for the family. If you avid tv watcher and are constantly online, it's a challenge to find time to talk to your family members. You can't blog together, so you gotta leave your spouse be. If you start blogging, remember that it's an additional activity that you will be incorporating into your regular lifestyle. Plan carefully. When there's money to be made, the 'gold rush' can blind us to more important priorities in life.

It depends. If your blog is time intensive, like you have to go out and gather information all the time, then it's probably true it'll hurt your family time. But then, most bloggers do it on the side and it isn't really addictive. So I'm not seeing the problem.

That's the thing. 'Doing it in the side' opens up a broad range of definitions. Many times it means, 'I'm doing it at work'. Since it's an additional activity that will intrude upon our normal lifestyle schedule... something's gotta go unless you're one of those individuals with too much time in their hands. For those of us who have already maximized our schedule, we gotta look at our priorities and decide what to cut. I'd say that one of our hobbies or leisure activity would be a good idea like watching tv. TV ain't that productive and it's not helping you generate income.
Also if you're married, remember to discuss all this with your spouse and also agree upon the schedule or the cut off time so that you don't blog 'too long' and miss out on some marital 'bliss'.
