Whenever possible, try to get a .com. It's been said that all the good .coms are taken but if you get a bit creative with it, you will almost always find a good .com domain name.
The reason you want to get a .com is because most people especially those that aren't too savvy with the internet will most likely put .com even if they remember the rest of the domain name.
