Well in your research you would see the different needs that arise, keeping in mind that you can always cross promote related stuff. Eg. If you're focusing on 'cutting down strokes' then you can always promote golf clubs to do that, digital information products on how to do that, tangible video products etc. I'm not too much into golfing so I can't really say unless I did some research.

You can also see what niche the Clickbank vendors are promoting to and go with that niche. You won't have to promote their product as the only offer but they've already done the research and groundwork so you can't really lose.

I just jumped on Yahoo Answers and did a search for golf. It seems that a lot of people are asking questions about the best type of golf clubs. You could promote golf clubs for example and get traffic by answering the type of questions they ask. In your keyword research you can get good conversion rates by targeting the exact name of the golf clubs. This is just an example. You also need to research your competition as well. I'll put up something about this later.
