Default Should Pop Unders be allowed at all in Affiliate Marketing?

Let's discuss the idea of using pop-unders to promote affiliate programs. Should they be allowed or not? What's your views?

The BAD
  • Potentially, affiliates could place a large scale pop-under advertising across the internet and stuff everyone's cookie with their own affiliate ID and erases everyone else's cookie.
  • May be iritating to users

The GOOD
  • Could increase a merchant's branding and sales

But what if the Affiliate Software uses 2 different kinds of cookies, one for pop unders and another for direct clicks? And pop-unders are take a backseat to Direct Clicks? Wouldn't that remove the possibility of cookie stuffing and adding another method of promoting a merchant's site?

Well , I have voted no > Because , see its the user we are going to please all the time . And pop unders or pop ups both are very irritating . Personally I just close any unwanted thing I never intended to see at the first moment . People really don't trust extra window advertisements too . Advertising within the page is better because the user clicks himself . Most users won't like to be forced to see something . So , I just recommend not using them .

I voted NO--- because some users may find it very annoying to see pop unders while busy doing something.

I voted NO, simply because pop unders are very annoying and most novice users might perceive them as viruses. Its not really pleasing.

I second that. Pop-unders and pop-ups are sooo annoying and it makes advertising look cheap and dishonest.

agree to all , whether it is the pop up or the pop under , both are anoying in the same way , they clog up the taskbar so much and make navigation between pages difficult too . Plus the fact that this technique is only forcing the users andsurfers to look at something they do not want , how do you expect then they will respond correctly . I think it is bad marketing idea taht is still used too widely .

Well one more thing i would like to add is that although pop unders are totued to lesser of intereference as in the pop-under ad is the sneakier relative of the pop-up ad. While pop-up ads are often shown (and closed) instantly, pop-under ads linger behind the current browser window, appearing only after other windows have been closed , but it does interfere as when it loads it does take away some bandwdth and so many may interfere with page loadings also , so its more of a problem only .

Default No..No..No!

I vote for NOT as well since it is highly irritates the user and is not the standard of user-friendliness or appeal which every Affiliate would want to acquire.
Further, in the Web 2.0 scenario where we are striving to get a more assessible and interative base, Pop Unders maybe just too many minus points in one go!

I second everyone. I think it's stupid to annoy a potential customer, no matter what.

That's like slapping everyone who walks into your store and then say "Hi sir, how can I help you today?"

Any customer with half a brain would've stormed off by then.

I think they shouldn't be allowed so I voted no.

The reason I voted no is because they're very annoying to me. Very. And I could imagine if they're annoying to someone with a high level of tolerance like myself then they might just be driving normal customers crazy.

Default i would have to say no

I voted no because i think pop-unders are not only useless, but they're as annoying as anything ive ever seen... and besides, think about it. Whenever a windows just pops up out of nowhere, what do you usually do? You close it right? Well, there you go... most other people are probably doing the same.

All it does is make people want to NOT click on your product because right away they get a bad impression that you're all about popups.

Could you put it in your signature so that YOU appear less annoying? I don't mean to be rude but that is NOT the way to promote your website.

You have signature priveleges. See how my website always shows up on the last line when I post a message?

Like that. Let me know if you need instructions on how to make a signature and I'll assist you.

Jay
