Web to Overtake TV News

Online news will overtake TV news within five years, according to a recent Harris Interactive poll released at the World Association of Newspapers conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

While the likelihood that most readers will eventually look online for news, presents a threat to traditional media outlets in the short run, Harris International consultant Douglas Griffen said established brands still have an opportunity to compete in the online space.

Last month, the Newspaper Association of America issued a report saying newspapers saw a 22 percent spike in online ad sales, but an overall drop in print ads.

This may be true because I personally get my daily dose of news from the internet. I can't seem to catch the news on TV because of the time slots. Though there are news programs on the prime time slots but when I have thing to attend to, I miss the program and just check it on the internet. There are several transactions that are more conveniently done on the internet rather than by their traditional means. It's a good thing newspaper publications have online counterparts so they won't be affected as much from the drop in sales.

Personally, I have been more into web news services already. Its more accessible and customizable as you can choose which news you want to watch. Not like in TV where you are to follow the segment that stipulated by the production team.
