There are many ways to arrange your adsense and other affiliates link. Most of the time it depends on the site itself like design and its functionality. You can always experiment on the placement so you can determine where it would be noticed more.
However, one of the most advisable way of placing text links is to co-relate it to the content of your site. Since text advertisement or links, have better chance to be clicked when they are placed next to a matching content.

Say, your one content of your site talks about dating. Then the best way to increase the chance of your links to be noticed by the reader is to place related affiliate links to it - for this purpose you can place ads on Friend Search or the like.

In doing so, you optimize the content matching of your site.
