Default eBay acquires StumbleUpon

This is the latest news for online buyers, eBAy has confirmed the acquisition of StumbleUpon, a social discovery site that aims its earnings through social marketing and commerce. Michael Buhr would be the one handling StumbleUpon, as the new general manager.

The cost of the acquisition is $75 million dollars, surely eBay would come up with the latest ideas that the newly acquired company offers, the shopping and buying would then be integrated with the social marketing strategies with the basic management principles of eBAY.

This is the acquiring trend set forth by internet - based companies, thus the more you acquire, the lesser the competition and your gain is higher. Read the full article at Techcrunch.

eBay could make a much better service, for this big acquisition.

great , but somewhere i did read many reasons as to why ebay acquired SU . Maybe they want to beat Amazon’s recommendation engine, and SU could provide data.We know that eBay wants to build a social network to establish more trust between buyers and sellers (and, in fact, they’ve already built the tech). It’s vaguely possible that they would buy a social network to do that, but it’s almost impossible to imagine any deep integration between the two .or about the toolbar thing ?

I think it is natural for it to acquire stumble, after all it is a popular site, with new things auctioned off daily. Anyway, there are a number of sellers, but only a handful manage to make a mark.

I came across an ebay book "Ninety Day Powerseller Program", though I was suspicious as anyone would be. However, it is really a good book and would recommend to all ebay sellers.

Default Ebay and social bookmarking

Now stumble is a social bookmarking site. It is interesting that ebay, an online auction site would want to own stumble upon
I cannot imagine it being a bid to improve their already giant auction system

I think it is more about diversification
