Friends theme song???

I was babysitting my teenage cousin one night and she was on the phone chatting with her bestfriend. Talks about clothes, school, enemies, music and from time to time boys (very discreetly since she knows I'm all ears) came up in their conversation.

Before hanging up, I overheard her singing "keep shining, keep smiling". Apparently, her friend is also singing at the other end of the line. I knew that song was from "That's What Friends Are For". I'm not amazed that she knew the song which is circa 1980s, but what really amazes me is that friends have theme songs? I knew married couples or steady dates have songs, but friends?

Later in the night, my best bud called. He's in some crisis and needed help. It wasn't a major one but I assured him that I'll be there for him. And quietly, as if rehearsed, I hummed "coz you're there for me, too..."

Yes, personally, I have a song for my special circle of friends and that is Take Me I'll Follow... "All I can give is my guarantee...we'll be friends forever!" a very nice background song while chatting with your friend or date online.

I guess one of the best relationships in the whole world (or universe) is genuine friendship. I truly believe that friends are the siblings that God forgot to give us. Also, they are great manifestations of God's love and cares for our welfare.

About friendship theme songs (though it sounds super mushy... ), there's nothing wrong with that. But let us be all reminded that far more than this, genuine friendship is founded in love, trust and care. True friends will be true friends forever if they chose to, with or without theme songs.
