PayPal is an e-commerce business allowing payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet. It serves as an electronic alternative to traditional paper methods such as cheques and money orders. PayPal performs payment processing for online vendors, auction sites, and other corporate users, for which it charges a fee.Their corporate headquarters are in San Jose, California, at eBay's North First Street satellite office campus. The company also has significant operations in Omaha, Nebraska; Dublin, Ireland; and Berlin, Germany.PayPal operates in 103 markets (including China) and it manages over 133 million accounts. PayPal allows customers to send, receive and hold funds in 17 currencies worldwide. These currencies are the U.S. Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Australian Dollar, Euro, Pounds Sterling, Japanese Yen, Chinese RMB, Czech Koruna, Danish Krone, Hong Kong Dollar, Hungarian Forint, New Zealand Dollar, Norwegian Krone, Polish Zloty, Singapore Dollar, Swedish Krona, and Swiss Franc. PayPal operates locally in 13 countries.According to PayPal's little-updated "About Us" webpage [3],
"PayPal has received close to 20 awards for technical excellence from the internet industry and the business community at large - most recently the 2003 Webby Award for Best Finance Site and the 2003 Webby People's Voice Award for Best Finance Site."PayPal is one of the few Internet companies with a single letter domain name in use.Developers implementing larger PayPal projects will likely want to avoid using real money. PayPal has a "sandbox" version of its website geared towards such developers. PayPal has detailed developer information for all aspects of its API online in PDF form, as well as a developer community and a third party developer market. All in all it is the highest recommended payment processor in the world of affiliate marketing.

Paypal has grown to be one of the respected financial institution over the internet....I saw the site grow from catering to three countries only. Now they are have expanded and carefully adding new countries who have been in compliance with the international law against money laundering.

I see several sites using PayPal, so I guess it's really safe. It revolutionizes the process of online payment.

There is also something else, it is beyond laws and regulations,
I live in the EU, in my country after 2 years of perpetual announcements of launching paypal, they finally put it into action, but we can only buy with it. So as a tool for me paypal does not exist for now, There ore other payment processors, with outstanding customers support, but it is true They are not so popular as paypal. I recently started using solidtrustpay, and alertpay Both Canadian pp companies, and I am very happy about it. I’ve been using also precious metal backed processors, like egold, but It seems that the US government is having a hard time accepting the fact that they can not regulate Metal based processors, because technically they are not money transmitters. I am very curios to know, what members use beside paypal, and their experience with them, I hope good experience

Paypal is a commonly used method, but has come of criticisms lately. Consider the following true incident of my friend (say X) who is using paypal, in Xs' own words:

Moreover, there are a number of other merchant accounts. Please have a look here: http://www.gspay.com/the-top-10-merc...-providers.php |

I have been using paypal for about 5 years and it haven't failed me yet so...from experience it's a great payment processor. I know that there are other payment processor out there that are probably just as good but paypal is the most well known. Since it is such a big payment processor, it's not surprising that some people have bad experience with it...that's just how the world works...life is not fair.

Paypal is unbeatable and will be the world champion of alternative online payment processing for a very very long time. There is just no one to challenge it. So love it or hate it, you can't beat it and sooner or later, you're gonna use it too as more and more people uses paypal.

Hey,
We thought PayPal was great as well until one day 4 months ago when they decided with no warning to put our account on hold (google it - it happens a lot!) they did not respond to emails when I rang (about 7 times) they put me on hold when I told them my query and I would wait for about an hour or 2 and I would still be on hold. They still have my money that was in my PayPal account which is around £1,000 (about $2,000 USD)! Never again will I use PayPal, it makes things lot harder though as PayPal is the most well known and used online payment system. Matt |

Yeah. Anyone that uses paypal needs to count the cost and be ready to face problems like this. Which is why no one should put a large deposit in paypal. It should be just enough money that you don't mind having it stuck there for 6 months to a year (which may take that long to process the release if paypal puts your account on hold).

It's a shame that paypal has such a poor reputation. If the posts above are telling us to use paypal at our peril, what are the alternatives

paypal is commonly used even if their service is quite bad.

I joined the Nochex partners scheme, its good for clients of mine in the UK but they are the UK version of Paypal and provide telephone support for merchants. Not had a problems so far and making good money from my referrals! Paypal are a huge company and I found them impossible to work with when you needed an answer or had a problem. If you wanted a payment provider for UK businesses Nochex are worth trying.

As of today PayPal is the largest used payment processing agent at eBay which gets more than a million hits every day. It's easy to get an account in PayPal. You just have to go to their site and get registered and then verify your details with the help of a credit card. And then you are ready to get started with this service and make online transactions.
