Default Bad site design, are you serious?

I've comed across many websites that have really poor design. Sometimes I wonder why they don't do slightly more to at least make it look 'acceptable'? In fact with $60 and purchasing a template from http://www.templatemonster.com/ would have made a huge difference. You don't want a bad design to drag your sales down. In can turn away 50% or more visitors to leave your site. If you put in so little effort in the design, do you put little effort in customer support, producing products, maintaining quality, site security, providing privacy, etc. Design influences consumer confidence & security. The first impression is in the url, then the design. How many will then reach the product details page, if your design is poor?

I totally agree, first impressions last! The right presentation will close the deal. Of the all the hundreds and thousands of sites out there, the over-all design can be one of our advantages over the others. It also makes me wonder why some would not invest in this, especially if they plan to stay in this business for the long run.

David, you're right. In as much as an individual pays off a web hosting service to publish his works, why not make the best out of designing his pages? Of course, not to mention the free sites out there, but with paid sites, I guess it is a must to sleek design their pages.

Cool post reply

I quite agree with your comments after all presentation and approach is what that is going to draw traffic to your site.If the url is a bit uncanny then it may rouse curiosity to the visitor and more over with a good design it enables your site to be optimized with traffic for a long time. But then the source of design mustn't necessarily be the one you suggested it may be borrowed from any other source on the internet.

I agree! The site itself must be physically marketable so that visitors will just go bookmark it and keep coming back. It's the design of the web page that is to be noticed initially and the content will just follow. Internet users, being human, are visual beings. They love what is pleasant to the eyes. The challenge is on how to have their eyes glued in the site and drive them to navigate it. The good thing is, creative and eye-catching web designs need not be that expensive. Like what Dan said, for as low as $60 , you'll be able to choose from a bunch of designs. $60 is nothing as compared to a tremendous sales brought about by your well designed site.

Well if you are into e-commerece a bad website design is something that you should be dreading because that will surely make people run away , and forget about every doing some business or transaction there . Less is more. Clean your website up by removing all the unnecessary visual elements. This will allow important items to stand out. Leave some white space on the page. The allusion of space is visually pleasing, as well as easier to navigate. Otherwise, your visitor will get whiplash by darting their head from left to right in an attempt to look at all the information crammed on your screen. Or worse, they’ll click on out of there in a hurry.
