Getting Started on Social Marketing

I recently read a good social media article from Jun Loayza who is the co-founder of Viralogy and social marketing director for SEOP. On it was outlined actionable tips to social marketing success. I find a lot of sense on his advice to those who want to venture in Social Marketing and i felt compelled to share them on this blog. So here goes....

Mr. Loayza pointed out five (5) actionable tips to achieve success in your social marketing campaigns. So here is a summary for you:

Tip #1: Be persistent
People think that social media is a quick way to make money, drive traffic, and become rich. The truth is that the top 20% of blog get 80% of the traffic. This is because these blogs have been around for a long time and have built a solid community around their expertise.

Your community won't be established for at least 6 months; and this is 6 months of constant engagement and hard work. Don't be discouraged because no one leaves a comment on your blog. It will happen; all you have to do is keep being persistent.

Tip #2: 2 hours a day makes the community stay
You're going to have to spend at least 2 hours a day on blogs, Twitter, on the forums, and on Facebook building community, talking to your clients and consumers, and building relationships with them.

Tip #3: Focus on the Big Three
You hear about Squidoo, a Wikipedia page, LinkedIn, Ning, Stumble, Digg and all of these other social sites. Forget about these sites- at least in the very beginning, you wil focus on the big three: The Wordpress Blog, Twitter, and Facebook.

No matter what your business, no matter what your company, these three sites will help you ergenate more leads and convert more sales. Get comfortable using these tools because you will be using them for 2 hours a day.

Tip #4: You have to write "To Die For" posts
To Die For posts are posts that are so good, that a persons life has dramatically become better because he or she has read it. It taught them something new, it made the person feel a new emotion, or brought the reader to enlightenment on a topic. People will only share To Die For posts, so make sure you're spending your time wisely and writing those posts that are sure to go viral.

Tip #5: Have fun with it!
Most of all guys, have fun doing it. That's what social media is about. It's not about doing 2 hours of grueling work.

You make some good points. Alot of people think social media is just a quick way of getting traffic.

In reality it takes alot of time and effort. you've got to be commited to it and give value to be rewarded with good quality traffic. For that reason you've got to enjoy it to make the most of it.
